Quick Decision

Not sure which configuration fits your kitchen?

Why This Matters

What Happens When Frozen Storage Gets It Wrong

A freezer that can’t hold true deep-freeze temperature doesn’t fail all at once. It fails slowly, in ways a kitchen only notices after the stock is already ruined.

Temperature swings

A unit that drifts above -18C lets ice crystals melt and re-form, breaking down texture before anyone opens the door.

Weak evaporating temp

Freezers built for milder climates can’t pull down to -35C, so they never fully catch up once 43C ambient heat pushes back.

Frost-choked airflow

Without proper automatic defrost, ice builds up around the evaporator and blocks the cold air from reaching the stock at the back.

Cheap steel

Corrodes within a year or two in a frozen, humid environment, the first thing an inspection flags.

Why ANKE

Why Choose The ANKE Upright Freezer

ANKE has manufactured commercial refrigeration in the UAE since 1997, and builds the Upright Freezer to hold a genuine -18C to -22C in 43C ambient heat, not a rating adjusted down from a milder European standard.

Engineering Insight

Why -35C Evaporating Temperature Matters More Than the Spec Sheet Suggests

Holding -18C to -22C inside the cabinet needs the refrigerant itself to run far colder, around -35C at the evaporator, so there’s still enough cooling power left once 43C UAE ambient heat is pushing back against the compressor. A chiller only needs to reach -10C at the evaporator to hold its warmer +10C setpoint; a freezer’s compressor works a different, harder job entirely.

Automatic defrost

Clears ice buildup on a schedule, so airflow across the evaporator stays open and the whole cabinet cools evenly.

Condensate vaporizer

Evaporates the water from each defrost cycle using waste heat, useful where there is no floor drain near the unit.

What is an upright freezer?
An upright freezer is a tall, freestanding refrigerator built for commercial kitchens, holding fresh food at -18C to -22C behind one or more full-height doors, unlike a low counter-height unit.
A chiller is a fridge. It holds food above freezing, typically -2C to +10C, for daily fresh storage. A freezer holds food well below freezing, at -18C to -22C, for long-term frozen storage.
An upright freezer is sometimes called a reach-in freezer, since staff reach directly into a full-height cabinet rather than bending into a chest or drawer unit.
Commercial chillers commonly come as upright (tall, floor-standing), under counter (worktop height), low boy (drawer-based, lower than under counter) and display or reach-in units with glass doors.
The single door UPF1 holds 450 litres across 4 shelves in a 686mm wide cabinet. The double door UPF2 holds 1017 litres across 8 shelves in a 1372mm wide cabinet. Both hold the same -18C to -22C temperature range.
What temperature range does the ANKE Upright Freezer hold?
The ANKE Upright Freezer holds -18C to -22C, suitable for fresh food storage, and is rated to operate in 43C ambient heat.
The Upright Freezer runs on R290, a hydrocarbon refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential of 3.
The single door UPF1 includes 4 shelves. The double door UPF2 includes 8 shelves. Both use GN 2/1 shelving on anti-tilt slides, with a maximum of 10 shelf positions at 100mm spacing.
Yes. The same cabinet platform is available as an Upright Chiller (models UPC1 and UPC2) holding -2C to +10C.
The cabinet is built in 304 grade stainless steel, interior and exterior, for hygiene and corrosion resistance.
What are the most common problems with an upright freezer?
The most common issues are poor cooling from a dusty condenser, frost or ice buildup blocking airflow, and frequent on-off cycling caused by restricted ventilation. Most of these come down to condenser maintenance rather than the unit itself.
Warning signs include the cabinet running warmer than usual, the compressor running constantly instead of cycling normally, and condensation building up inside the cabinet. Check the condenser coils for dust first, since restricted airflow is the most common cause.
Frost usually points to a door seal that isn’t closing fully or a door left open too often, letting in warm, moist air. ANKE Upright Freezers use hot gas defrost, which clears any frost using the system’s own heat rather than a separate electric element.
Check the power supply and thermostat setting first, since these cause most sudden stoppages. If those are fine, a blocked condenser or poor ventilation around the unit is the next most likely cause.
A commercial kitchen environment builds up grease and dust quickly, so the condenser should be checked and cleaned every 1 to 3 months to keep airflow and cooling performance consistent.
Can the door hinge be changed to the left side?
Yes. A left hand door hinge is available as an option on both the single door and double door Upright Freezer.
Yes. As a manufacturer, ANKE can build custom refrigeration to a specific size or layout on request, in addition to the standard UPF1 and UPF2 models.
