Lowboy Freezer

ANKE’s Lowboy Freezer holds -18C to -22C in GN 1/1 drawers at only 650mm high, low enough for counter top cooking equipment to sit above it. Three widths: 1200mm (LB-FR-DR2, 2 drawers), 1420mm (LB-FR-DR2+2, 4 drawers), or 1900mm (LB-FR-DR2+2+2, 6 drawers), in 304 grade stainless steel inside and out, with ventilated forced air refrigeration.

ANKE builds the Lowboy Freezer in three widths on one platform: 1200mm, 1420mm, or 1900mm. All three are 700mm deep and 650mm high, and all three hold -18C to -22C. Every drawer takes 2 x GN 1/1 containers, so the drawer count rises with the width.
Legs are standard on all three widths. Castor wheels are available as an option.

Quick Decision

Not sure which width fits your cook line?

Why This Matters

What Happens When A Freezer Lives Underneath The Heat

A lowboy freezer takes the hardest position in the kitchen. It sits at 650mm on the cook line, usually with hot equipment directly above it, and it still has to hold -18C. Everything that makes that difficult is stacked against it at once.

Radiant heat from directly above

Unlike a cabinet standing beside the equipment, a drawer base sits underneath it and takes heat downward from the cooking surface all through service.

Far more heat to get rid of

The freezer version draws 680 W on the largest model against 380 W for the chiller. All that extra energy becomes heat that has to leave a cabinet only 650mm tall.

Drawers opened all service

A station freezer is opened constantly. Every opening lets warm moist air into a shallow cabinet, and in a freezer that turns into ice.

Impossible to pull out

With equipment fixed above it, the unit can never be moved for service, so anything that needs access has to be reachable from the front.

Why ANKE

Why Choose The ANKE Lowboy Freezer

ANKE has manufactured commercial refrigeration in the UAE since 1997. The Lowboy Freezer is rated to operate in 43C ambient, uses ventilated forced air to hold temperature evenly across shallow drawers, and keeps its compressor and condenser accessible from the front.

Engineering Insight

Why The Compressor Has To Come Out Of The Front On A Lowboy

On almost every other refrigeration unit, service access is a convenience. On a lowboy it is the whole design problem. Once a griddle or fryer is sitting on top of a drawer base, that base is never moving again without dismantling the station around it. And a lowboy freezer needs that access more than anything else in the kitchen: it draws 680 W against the chiller version’s 380 W, so it is rejecting far more heat, from underneath the hottest equipment in the room, out of a cabinet only 650mm tall. A condenser in that position loads up with grease quickly, and if it cannot be reached from the front, it does not get cleaned.

Front removable compressor and condenser

The refrigeration system comes out from the front, so the unit stays serviceable with equipment permanently mounted above it.

Ventilated forced air refrigeration

Moves air through the cabinet rather than letting it settle, which is what holds a shallow drawer at an even temperature front to back.

Rated for 43C ambient

The rating is for the room, and a drawer base under hot equipment sees more than the room. Starting from a genuine 43C rating leaves margin for the position it actually sits in.

2 x GN 1/1 per drawer

Frozen product stays in standard gastronorm containers, so it goes from the walk-in to the station drawer without being decanted or re-portioned.

How To Order

From Enquiry To Installed Drawer Base

Five steps from enquiry to an installed unit. Two things decide the specification: the run length available on your cook line, and what equipment is going to sit on top. Tell us both and we will confirm the model and check the top arrangement with you.

What is a lowboy freezer?
A lowboy freezer, also written low boy and sometimes called a refrigerated drawer base or chef base, is a commercial freezer built low, at 650mm high, with GN 1/1 drawers instead of doors. It holds frozen product at the cook line rather than in a walk-in across the kitchen.
Because something usually goes on top of it. Standard counter height is 850mm. A lowboy is built 200mm shorter so that counter top cooking equipment placed above it brings the cooking surface back to roughly working height.
Height and access. An under counter freezer is 850mm high with doors and a usable worktop. A lowboy is 650mm high with GN drawers, designed to sit beneath equipment rather than to be worked on directly.
It can, provided it is rated for high ambient and its condenser stays accessible and clean. The ANKE Lowboy Freezer is rated to operate in 43C ambient and its compressor and condenser can be removed from the front, which is what makes service possible once equipment is fixed above it.
They are the same cabinet in three widths. LB-FR-DR2 is 1200mm wide with 155 litres. LB-FR-DR2+2 is 1420mm with 195 litres. LB-FR-DR2+2+2 is 1900mm with 305 litres. All three are 700mm deep and 650mm high. The model code describes the drawer banks: 2, then 2 + 2, then 2 + 2 + 2.
What temperature range does the ANKE Lowboy Freezer hold?
It holds -18C to -22C, and is rated to operate in 43C ambient.
Ventilated means forced air: a fan moves cold air through the cabinet instead of letting it settle by gravity. In a shallow drawer freezer that is what keeps the front and the back of a drawer at a similar temperature, which is why the datasheet lists minimal fluctuation in the inner cabinet as a key feature.
LB-FR-DR2 draws 495 W, LB-FR-DR2+2 draws 475 W, and LB-FR-DR2+2+2 draws 680 W. For comparison, the chiller version of the same cabinet draws 320 W, 310 W, and 380 W, which is the extra work involved in holding a freezing temperature rather than a chilled one.
Lowboy units are designed to sit beneath counter top equipment, but the weight and footprint of the specific equipment you plan to use should be checked before ordering. Contact the ANKE team with the equipment details and they will confirm the arrangement for your installation.
Yes. The same platform is available as a Lowboy Chiller (models LB-DR2, LB-DR2+2 and LB-DR2+2+2) holding +2C to +8C.
How is a lowboy serviced when equipment is sitting on top of it?
That is exactly what the front removable compressor and condenser are for. The refrigeration system comes out from the front of the unit, so routine service and cleaning do not require moving the equipment above or pulling the base out of the line.
Every 1 to 3 months, and on a freezer under hot equipment, closer to the 1 month end. It sits directly beneath a grease source and it has more heat to reject than the chiller version does, so a loaded condenser shows up faster here than anywhere else.
Ice comes from warm moist air entering the cabinet, which on a station freezer usually means the drawers are being opened very frequently during service or a drawer is not sealing fully when closed. Check the seal and the closing action first.
Check the condenser for grease first, then check that the front of the unit is not blocked, then look at what is running above it and how long it runs for. A drawer base beneath equipment that is on all service has a much harder job than the same unit in a prep area.
Which model should I choose?
Measure the run available on your cook line first: 1200mm, 1420mm, or 1900mm. Then check the capacity you need against 155, 195, and 305 litres. If equipment is going on top, share those dimensions too so the arrangement can be checked.
Legs are standard. Castor wheels are available as an option, though on a unit with equipment mounted above, fixed legs are usually the right choice.
Warranty terms are confirmed at the time of quotation. Contact the ANKE team for current warranty details.
Send your cook line run length and what equipment will sit on top by WhatsApp, the quote form on this page, or by phone. ANKE confirms the model and options, manufactures the unit in the UAE, and delivers to your site with handover support.
